I have removeable drivers I also have a secondary drive.Well here is my problem I was running WinXP Pro. I pulled out my drive & put in another drive. Did what I had to then put back in my Win XP & it won't boot. The message I get is as follows.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
<windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file. Now I have gone to my secondary drive & tried to copy the file over but no luck. Does anyone have ideas as how to fix this without formatting. Thanks In advance.

Are you sure that XP supports hot swapping of those drives?? Sounds like a reinstall is the only thing to do now.
