Ok I have a laptop at work basically in a nutshell when it boots, it can't even get to the Windows logo. It boots to bios then right after POST it says and error has occured, this file is corrupt, please re-install said file.

Can I just use a boot disk and boot to dos and copy the file from a cd-rom drive to the destination?

I think the computer is farked beyond that though and will definately need a fresh install of Windows.

However, we do try to salvage whatever we can. Any advice and tips are appreciated.

You will have to use the Recovery Console and COPY Comand to replace the file. It is not that hard to do, the file on the XP cd will automatically decompress when copied. You will need the Admin password to use the console.
