Windows XP Pro

My computer crashed and I went to use my XP Pro disc to repair the problem. I tried pulling it out of the sleeve but somehow the sleeve must have gotten wet, the glue and paper stuck to the read side of the disc. I went to my local mom and pop computer store with my destroyed XP Pro disk. They made me a new copy and said I should be able to use my old serial number. Is this true? My old disk was about 1 1/2 years old. Will a newer version of XP Pro accept my old number?

As long as it's the same version of windows (home, pro, OEM, etc.) the key will work. What is "newer" about the disk. There is only 1 Windows XP Pro CD (from MS), AFAIK.

Thanks, yes the mom and pop store made sure they copied the version, so I guess I'll be alright. You'll have to forgive me, I'm in panache mode. I was playing BF1942 when it crashed. It rebooted itself several times then told me to insert the XP disc and run repair. Needless to say I couldn't.
