hi all.
i have a little query that i was hoping someone might be able to help me out with.

when loading up windows it seems to be taking a longer time than on my other pcs, and im not 100% sure as to why. i have disabled some things but nothing (to my knowlegde) that would make the pc slower in booting.

the problem being is that when getting to the big blue screen saying loading windows xp, it seems to 'hang' on this screen for longer than i can remember. i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas whether or not i might be able to speed it up a little?

thanks for the help

How much ram do you have? run msconfig and remove all those startup items.

What "things" have you disabled? If you're talking about services, try setting the services you think should be disabled to manual and monitor them periodically as to whether or not they started ...then, disable them if necessary.

the things that i disabled where mostly things like theme's, help files/support things like that.

i have since had to reinstall anyway because when i installed midnight club 2, i couldnt play it because the down was 'apparently' constantly pressed. for whatever reason this was, reinstalling xp, has made it boot up that little bit better as well. it must have been something i turned off. :(

is there anyway of actually speeding up windows loading? i know about defragging the hard drive (i use norton 2003 pro for that :) ) and about having not alot in startup (which i try for anyway!) but what else is there? bit of a novice at tweaking software.. normally its just the hardware i do :D

When you transition from the black splash screen to the blue background splash screen it's loading services. Run msconfig, jump to the services tab and start clearing checkboxes. You might want to start with hiding all microsoft stuff then hitting the disable all...work backwards from there.
