I have this weird problem I hope someone has encountered and fixed that is really annoying.
Over time, for some reason, my http (non-ssl) outbound connections will stop working. Firefox, IE7, just cannot connect outbound to http connections.
For some reason, my http (ssl) sites work fine. Additionally, FTP and SSH continue to work w/o issue.
I've checked my event viewer and occasionally, windows will report that TCP/IP has reach the maximum limit for concurrent connection attempts but even after 'netstat -an' shows no more connections, IE and FF still fail to connect outbound.
The last resort is to reinstall Windows and go through the hassle of reinstalling everything. I guess it might be time to build an nLite image so if this happens again, it will be easy to reimage.
Does this happen to any other computers on the LAN?
No, there are 4 computers on the LAN, and it's only happening to this one.
Does it happen in Safe Mode (w/ networking)?
Typing the post right now in Safe Mode, hasn't happened yet (knock on wood).
Can't play BF2 in Safe Mode so that's no good 😉
Besides Safe Mode, tried any other workaround?
Rebooting sometimes restores normal operation but the failure condition will return eventually. Resetting the network interface will sometimes solve it but won't work for the long term. Using an http proxy seems to work but that's sub-optimal.
