Well, I've been having some problems with Star Wars Galaxy. So i decided to install XP on a diff HD i had and see if that fixed the problem.

So, i didnt notice when the HD didnt show up in bios and i began the install, started formating the drive. Then i realized that the drive was 58xxx mb. So i'm here thinking that cant be right, this is a 80 GB HD.

SO i turn and see the light flashing on my external 60 GB, and i am just think "oh goodness NO!" i turnj the drive up and the format dies. It had formated my "Backup" drive.

:( :(
:( :(
:( :(

Anyway, its not ALL bad. The drive didnt really contain anything that i cant get back. The only really sad thing is that 90% of the Malcom In the Middle episodes are going to need to be redownloaded. Other then that i cant really remember just what was on there....

STOP NOW

You can still save your data!

Crap. Searched GH, but as a non-sub I can't do fulltext.

Someone had this happen before, and saved their data with a certain utility.

Yup. I was like 20% done formatting a drive when I realized it was the wrong one. In desperation, I restarted and for some odd reason everything was still there.

I managed to do the exact same thing just a few weeks ago... formatted my backup drive because it's the same size as the main drive and XP setup didn't distinguish them... managed to recover every file though :D

On occassion, you may currupt something doing that, I wouldn't recommend it unless there was stuff on the drive that was irreplaceable.

That reminds me, out of freaking no where 7 folders of saved school files from the past 2 years of my college life just disapeared a few weeks ago and when I rebooted (reboot only a few times a month) I get the scandisk finding the damn FOUND.000 stuff and basically ALL of it was currupt, I don't know how that happened. I'm still crying over it, it had some stuff I wanted to save. :(

Get a File Recovery Program. I was able to recover about 75% of my stuff when I last did something stupid like that.

Edit: The best one I've used so far has been PC Inspector File Recovery.

Same thing happened to me, only it was my /Drivers/ directory.

It just vanished. It was bizzare.

I used to get Data Corrupted etc msgs every so often.

That's when it was formatted FAT32

Now I have it on NTFS and everything is peachy.

I name my files in both English and Korean and it's a champ. On Fat 32 it always used to get messed up.
