Windows XP Pro Repair Installation Problem

Hello All,

I recenty corrupted an installation of Windows XP Professional by trying to backup some data to the drive through a linux live cd.

The data on the drive seems to be fine, except certain windows files are corrupt and I cannot boot windows.

I began a repair installation so as to fix the windows repair files and keep the important backed up data.

However, when windows install gets to the step 'Installing Devices' it gets about 2/3 done in the left hand progress bar then my system reboots, forcing the install to restard a step previously. It does this in an infinite loop, getting nowhere.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Have you verified you system stability with Memtest86+? Try a recovery console repair first using chkdsk /r
