Could anyone tell me what would happen if there was no service packs installed on windows xp pro eg ; will it run ok if no internet is being used on it ,

many thanks in advance

You're going to be messed up in the long run. MS.Blaster and various other spyware and worms will probably infect your computer.

Nothing would happen. It should generally run perfectly fine.

When I say perfectly, obviously if there is something you're using which doesn't work correctly and was fixed in a Service Pack, then you may have problems, although you may be able to find an individual patch.

For everyday general use it should be ok.

Even though you're not using the internet, I'd thoroughly recommend you get and install this patch. Security Rollup Package for XP, which would keep a lot of the nasties away if you ever went on the net.

It's not supported. You can't get support from Microsoft, and you can't get patches from Windows Update for it.

So you're asking if the FCKGW version of XP is fine for a system that's not connected to the internet?

So I'll give you the benifit of the doubt & assume you're not, there are still several problems with running a base XP Pro without any updates. One example being Java applets & other Java based software will often fail to load and dump an error. Take even a legit retail XP Pro cd from the initial XP release, and you cannot run the latest versions of AIM or Weatherbug. Those are just examples I know of, there are sure to be others that fail to run properly, and don't have to be internet related as my known examples are.
