my sister got a new computer and the problem is when I run the xp setup cd and it starts loading the files, it stops loading when it says "setup is loading files (dynamic volume support (dmboot))".. I dont know what to do. Maybe a problem with the hard drive?, weird thing is I got ubuntu to install on the computer so I dont think its a hardware problem, thanks for your help.

the specs are

e2160
dg33 intel mobo
2gb ram

How long did you wait before declaring it was a hung installation?
Windows installation is always finicky because there's no clear status indicator and sometimes you just need to wait an excessively long time for it to finish whatever operation it's doing.

around 15 minutes, the thing is I dont hear my hdd working and my dvd drive just stops, do you think I need to wait longer?

Is this when it is first booting up onto the CD, before formatting the hard drive? If so, then you may want to try another optical drive (and another data cable for it) or another CD.

Also, what kind of RAM? I know the Intel boards don't let you change much, but if you're using RAM that requires more than 1.8v then it might not work right.

I believe its Kingston Ram and yes it is when first starting the CD, before formatting, Ill try another disk and see if I can get another optical drive, I dont know if it has something to do with anything but I can install Ubuntu with no problem whatsoever, I know its a totally different league but its something interesting. Thanks for your help so far.
