I've enabled "IDE" mode in my bios, and and trying to install Windows XP Pro on a single 74Gb Raptor on my brand new build. When I get into the beginning of Windows, it tells me that it can't find any mass storage devices, yet in the bios startup, it detects it at a 74Gb WD740ADFD. I didn't set any jumpers on the drive since it's on the SATA0 controller, and it didn't come with any jumpers installed. Sata controllers are enabled, and raid is turned off.

E6600 / Tuniq @ stock speeds
Gigabyte GA-N680SLI-DQ6
1Gb Corsair 8500C5D (until I get things up and running).

Thoughts / suggestions / ideas all appreciated

So the drive is IDE but you have it hooked up to the SATA controller?

I'm confused if it is detecting it in the BIOS.

If it is an IDE drive doesn't it just hook up to the IDE interface on the board with old school IDE cables?

The Gigabyte SATA controller is in IDE mode (instead of AHCI, or RAID).

The drive is a SATA 74Gb Raptor, on SATA channel 0 (the 1st one) which I think is the NV raid controller, now.

I think what may be happening (after speaking with a co-worker) is that since I have the NV SATA controller enabled for RAID (even though I turned off the individual channel (0, 1, 2, etc)) it wants the RAID driver installed before XP will see the drives. I think as I have it configured right now without installing the RAID drivers (F6 during WinXP initialize) it will never see the HDD.
