Windows XP Pro Install goes black screen

Alright, so I have a pretty good knowledge of computers and have installed windows xp many times. This time, however, I want to format my current xp install and reinstall for a fresh copy. I reboot my machine and load the xp cd. It starts loading all those drivers in the beginning like scsi this scsi that. Right when it gets to the point where it says starting windows where I should then see the menu to partition and format and install stuff, the computer goes blank and it just sits there. I don't get what the problem is.

Nothing has changed in this computer.

I have tried 2 diff xp cd's
disconnected the hard drives
tried each of my cd drives.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I've run into that exact same problem before with a win2k install. It was on a Iwill mainboard with a via chipset using a geforce 4 ti 4200. Whenever I rebuilt my machine, I'd have to put in my older geforce 2 gts card and that seemed to solve the problem. I always chalked it up to being a funky video card glitch with my geforce 4. Recently I tried the same thing with the geforce 4 card and a new nforce 2 mainboard. Everything ran just fine.

What I suggest is to try to do the install using another video card. Once you have the OS up and running, swap out the video cards for one you want to use permanently, and install the drivers for it.
