okay, I have recently upgraded to windows xp pro. I love it except for one thing. When I had windows 98, I could easily sort the mp3s in my music folder by date. It was much easier to add files to winamp by that method, then by searching through all my most recent downloads by name. With XP, my music folder gives options to sort by all kinds of methods including album, artist, duration etc, but not date modified. I have found that you can go to view > choose details and select the option to sort by date modified. This, however, only works once. Because the next time I open my music folder, the option to sort by date modified is no longer there. I was wondering if there was something else I need to do in order to get the option to sort by date modifed to stay, without having to do view > choose details everytime.

Thanks,
maest

If I'm understanding your problem easily, here's the fix. Right Click on the columns in the folder. (And by columns, I mean "Name", "Type", "Date Modified", etc.) And this will bring up a little menu that allows you to toggle certain file attribute columns. Just click on the one(s) that you want to be listed. (And by that, I mean file attributes.) And it should have "Date Modified" there. Although I'm not a HUNDRED percent sure if it'll keep these settings persistent. It's supposed to, and it does for me. But the only reason I say that, is because you said you are having that problem with the settings going away when you close the folder.

I know this was quite the CRAPTASTIC explanation, but I hope you understand.

In my experience if you are using many folders with Windows XP it doesn't remember them all. I have also read that it only remembers settings for 100-150. So, I went and grabbed X-Setup and never had any problems with my folder settings.

That's what I do, it just doesn't stick. And EeyoreX, I downloaded the program you recommended, and I will see if changing some settings helps.

Thanks again.
