Windows XP / PC does not shutdown / power down - always

I dont know what is going on...these "seems" to be random and I have not been able to isolate it.

Windows XP Pro will not always complete shut down.

I selected shut down, all apps get closed...says Windows is shutting down...and then when it would be the time for the computer to go off...it just stays on a blue screen...then I'm forced to reset and use the power button to shut down.

Any ideas??

Thanks!

yeah I have visited the site before...it is rather old...considering my hardware is not older than 2 years...and my XP pro is all patched up....it would be something to consider but not to be taken as the master solution.

Thanks for the in any case

I had the exact same problem start happening to me the past few weeks, I booted up into safemode and ran spybot/adaware and the problem dissapeared, hope that helps. Reasoning why this could cause it is the fact that some spyware apps running in the background may not want to shutdown w/ ur system so it will cause a system hang.
