Windows XP passwords

I have my computer setup with 2 user accounts -- both password protected. Last week, I tried to logon and it said that the password was incorrect.....this was the case with both accounts. I logged on as admin to change the passwords back. Now, today I tried to logon...and it didn't ask me for a password, on either account. Whats the deal here?

Virus scan came up with nothing......also did a spyware scan, but very doubtful it had anything to do with it.....

There would seem to be to be but two possible answers . . . either you mistakenly changed them to <nothing>, or the other user knows the admin password and changed them to <nothing>. Check the other user account and see if has administrative rights.

Appreciate the reply, but how do you accidently reset your password without remembering.....and the other user has no idea how to do it.

The two easiest ways would be to accidentally hit the Create Password button with nothing in either field (common if you use numerical passwords and the NumLock is off), or to enter the new password correctly and then close the window without clicking on the Create Password button.

To run a test, change your password, being careful to fill things in correctly, then click on Start / Logoff and relog as yourself and see if it is correct.

It is also possible to create a policy that would keep the password as <null> . . . but that is a little beyond most users, and I know of no currently wild virus or trojan that does this.

I know my way around an OS, and resetting the password by accident without any recollection is just not possible. I mean....I never visit the User Accounts setup section.

I'll get to the bottom of this.
