windows xp password protection

My HDD was having boot failure.

Got a new HDD, installed windows and put my old HDD as secondary.

problem? I cannot get to my files from HDD which are protected by Windows XP password

all my work files are trapped and I have no clue how to retrieve those files.

Is there a software which would help me in this situation?

Thank you.

It's probably just a permissions error. Go through the directories and via the Security tab add your user to the list of users that get full file permissions.

More information, please on what you mean by "protected by Windows XP password".

Do you mean the whole DRIVE was password protected?
Do you mean that you encrytped the files using EFS (Encrypted File System, Windows XP Professional, only)?
Do you mean that you can access SOME files on the drive, but that all files in your "My Documents" folder result in permission errors? (If this is the problem, then use MechBgon's solution. Follow the instructions EXACTLY, or it won't work.)
What's the EXACT error message?
