Hello,
Thank you all who replied to my previous post, and led me to try the software MP3 BR. As I have already written this software is great for being one of the first to come up with a software that specifically caters to MP3-in dash players, it still needs a lot of work. It is not worth the money for a software that is soo buggy, at least for me on Windows XP.
One of the features that I would not be able to live without that I got from this software is the ability to create shortcuts/playlist of MP3s in a folder and have it read in my car without any problems. Does anyone know of anyway I can get a freeware that can also do this, or perhaps changing a setting on Windows XP to allow me to do this? Let me explain, what I mean a bit more clearly....
I currently own a Kenwood dash, and it does not allow me to play all tracks in the disc at random, unless the disc does not have folders. Random only works for files in one single folder. That is absolutely useless to me, as I only put 10 songs, one CD in each folder. MP3 BR gave me the idea, and came out with the idea of creating "shortcuts," or pointers to the files in a separate folder, so now I can keep my individual folders, while also putting all the songs on the disc in a different folder for across disc random play. I commend them for this ingenius idea, but when I heard it, did not understand why I couldn't just use Windows' shortcut capibilities, and save myself $30.00 (what they charge for their software after the trial period). Well, I went home and tested the idea out, and realized that the shortcut for windows says something like this ""C:\Documents and Settings\yxx\My Documents\Music\02-0195-01.mp3"." Obviously my in-dash cannot read this file after it is burnt on a CD for two reasons: 1) there is no such directory on the CD itself (it is in my hardrive) 2) the in-dash player is only an mp3 decoder, not a component of windows that is able to look for "shortcuts." So, then I installed MP3 BR and tested it out, and was impressed that it did what it said it terms of allowing my car to read its shortcut files... But hated it because it crashed my whole system, scaring me for a couple minutes, since I had not backed up some important files in a month. I was also unable to use the sort file option that they claim, it was just not available, not bolded when I right clicked on a folder or file; and it gave me a "run time error" for trying to name a "volume" with numbers as the title.
So with all that said, I do not want to pay for the program, although the ability to let me randomize my whole CD and keep folders is a must have. Does anyone know if there is a way that I can tweak XP to allow the shortcuts to be read, and actually point to the file, rather than the location of the file? Or is there a freeware out there that does the samething? When I looked at the shortcut file for MP3 BR, it had the exact integrity as the original file "02-0195-01.mp3."
