Lastnight I was typing a paper and had just started listening to MP3s when my computer froze. :Q Oh no my paper is gone! The first time I restarted my computer, it didn't see my IDE devices. This has happened once or twice in the past 3 year so I just turned the computer off and let it sit for a while. When I finally booted back up, right after the USB mouse is detected (ya know when all the lights on the mouse and KB come on) the load animation freezes and the computer just sits there. I tried last known good config, but still nothing. Then I tried Safemode with networking, worked like a charm. I've run disk check and defrag but I'm really at a loss of what to do. I really don't want to have to format but if thats what it takes I'll do it. :(

Thank You for your time,
J.

*UPDATE* It was the got dang sound card. I had a hunch but when windows froze on the hardware part of the install I knew it wasn't the vid or net cards or the mouse bacause they all worked in safemode but sound didn't. Stupid SoundBlaster POS! I've hated them for year but my other sc didn't work with Freelancer and this one did. Now that I beat the game it doesn't matter anymore. Oh well, it'd been a year and a half since I last reformated anyway. :Q

well, it sound like a good format is in order, but you may try to salvage your data by hooking up another HD and copying stuff on to that. or you may try to burn it off on cds

i just had this happen to me a month ago
