Windows XP only boots with XP cd in drive

I think I have a corrupted NTloader but the computer will only boot with the XP cd in place. Otherwise, it will say "DISC BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER".

How do I repair the ntloader?

Boot XP with the CD in, let it do its thing, then go into recovery consoles (varies by disc to disc for whatever reason, but it's usually "R"), and do chkdsk. Alternately boot to a BartPE disc and do it that way.
