i have an asus EeePC netbook that i love and it has windows xp. when i start up in normal mode it boots to the desktop and i hear the windows startup sound but it comes out all stuttery and crackling. once it finishes loading ill move the mouse about an inch or two on the screen and the computer immediately freezes. no control alt delete no nothing. tried it in safe mode, i can move the mouse for about a second or two and then it freezes as well. thoughts?

*very weird, i was able to get into safe mode under administrator once for about 10 minutes before it froze. now, when i get to the login i can move the mouse for about a second or two before the entire machine freezes

**ok, for some reason it booted into windows normally and worked for about 5 minutes and i double clicked on my computer and it froze.

it seems to be completely random on how long i can use it before it freezes. however, anything even remotely intense seems to force it quicker.

thats what i thought. i am currently running butterfly seek test, random seek test, read/verify seek test, SMART test and imminent failure test on hard drive in eurosoft QA+Win32 diagnostic program. so far so good. it passed the complete quick system test so who knows.

As noted, check hard drive and memory first. Offhand, it sounds like a driver issue, but that's a bit hard to believe since the hardware on those PCs are so uniform. They all have the same hardware and all use the same drivers (I assume...).
