Windows XP on laptop acting strange.

Everytime I try to get on the internet, my laptop takes forever to load pages!!!

I looked at the Task Manager and noticed that Internet Explorer uses 50% of the cpu while the Windows XP system takes another 50%. A few minutes later when the page loads, the whole system goes back to idle. WTF is going on? 😕

I check for viruses and ran spybot, but that didn't help.

I did just recently get infected by an ad virus, but I did a system restore and ran Norton/spybot multiple times till there was no more trace of anything.

Did the Laptop came loaded with Junk music playing, stock quotes and photo editing programs, which are running in the background? We buy Toshiba latptops at work, and they come with unbelievable amounts of junk, which get started up when the computer boots up, and take up most of the RAM. Uninstalling all that junk usually helps. Also, try using Mozilla, see if that solves any problems.

Under Tools / Internet Options / Connections / LAN Settings, do you have "Automatically detect settings" checked? If so, does the problem go away when you uncheck it?
