windows XP on DVD bootable?

Hi,

laptop i recently acquired has DVD burner but for some reason it won't recognize any CDs.
I borrowed a DVD and put in the drive and it finally recognized.
So I'm thinking if I have a windows XP on DVD, I can boot and do the fresh installation.
If I just copy all the files in windows CD and burn on DVD, will it work? I've never used DVD before and I just ordered one and it's on its way.

you'd have to do more than just copy the files over, it would have to be a bootable DVD; but yes it should be possible to do a bootable DVD that has XP on it.

it should be the same process as making a CD bootable, take a look at some of the XP slipstreaming guides and just follow the process with a burnable DVD rather than a burnable CD; should work the same.

Yea, follow the same instructions for making a slipstreamed XP CD. I've done it because I thought a DVD-R might install Windows quicker since DVDs theoretically have a higher transfer rate. However, it turns out that the average seek time for my DVD drives (NEC 3500A and a Lite-On 52x32x52x16 Combo Drive) is so slow in comparison to CD-R seek times that the slipstreamed CD-R is faster.
