Windows XP on a Mac G3

I came across a G3 Mac (the bubble type, monitor and cpu all in one with the colorful cover)
The computer was working. I got it at a school district auction, when I got it I noticed that the hard drive, the memory, and a little battery (probably cmos battery) were missing.

My question is: Is it possible to install Windows xp or any other OS on a "G3 Mac" once I get it up and running? (being that I install a hard drive, memory, etc...)

Yellow Dog Linux.

You could put Linux on it, but it would pretty much be the same as Linux on X86, only slower with poorer drivers (although that won't really matter with an iMac).

If you give some more info on the model, I could give you some better ideas.

And there was a PowerPC version of Windows NT, but it couldn't run on Macs and only got as far as 3.51 SP3 IIRC.
 
Well, I guess that answers my question. I knew it wouldn't be that easy. Thank You all for responding. I guess I'll try and make it work with its original OS or upgraded OS if possible. OS 10.3

Um... no? Where are you getting this assessment?

NT 4 had a PPC port as well.

Slower than what? I installed Ubuntu on a Mac a few weeks ago and it ran perfectly fine, even the wireless worked out of the box. The only real downside was no non-free nVidia drivers are available for PPC so we had to use the OSS 'nv' driver for X.

I don't think you can run OS X on those puppies. I believe they will only support up to OS 9.

Could be wrong though 🙂
 
What did you pay for the system? I don't believe that OS X Panther will run very well on that system. A friend of mine had a G4-450mhz system and OS X was sluggish until he upgraded the CPU. The Yellow Dog Linux might be your best option.

There is Windows Emulation software out there but you need a newer system for that to run decent.
