Windows XP OEM INSTALLATION QUESTION

Hey guys, I have a question for you all.

In 2000, I bought a computer. It had Windows 98. A year later, Windows XP came out. Since it was so new and so expensive, my roommate in college put a less than honest XP on my computer. It was cool then, but I'm not happy with that fact now and haven't been happy about it for a long time.

I want to buy Windows XP FULL HOME OEM. I believe this is the correct one from newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16837102059

Is this link the right product?

I want to wipe out everything on my computer and just start fresh with Windows XP on it.

My question is, with Windows XP OEM, how do I clear everything before putting the new XP in? Do I just put the disk in and it will clear it for me?

Retail vs OEM.... If you can find a RETAIL version for close to the same price I'd go w/ that for only 1 reason. Once you load the OEM into your system the OS is perminently "wedded" to that motherboard. If you at some time get a new blank box or upgrade the MB, by liscense you have to buy a new copy of XP. Retail version can be moved to anything, anytime. Now this may sound bad in theory but in reality it seems to be easy enough to move an OEM.That could change. You put yourself at the mercy of MS and there generosity. 🙂
 
Retail cost almost twice the price of OEM. Unless you are sure you will be upgrading/changing the MB does it may sense to buy it. HD/CPU/Video card/mem changes do not apply.
