I've been considering formatting my hard drive and reinstalling Windows to attempt to correct some issues I'm having. However, I can't find my Windows CD in any of the places where I would normally store it. I do know what the CD key is, though, and I can borrow another OEM CD from my dad. Question is will using the other CD, but my key work?

As long as they are both OEM and same type (Home or Pro)
it should be fine. Just use your key when it asks for it. Worst
case, is a call to Microsoft if it will not take the key or activate on line.

I have 4 computers running OEM WinXP at home and each has their own CD Key. One OEM WinXP CD works in all of them (none are Dell, HP or other proprietory boxes.)

Q1 - Is your XP key for home or pro, oem or retail?
Q2 - Is your dad's cd home or pro, branded or unbranded (dell, hp, etc).

cubby has a good point about the OEM cd being branded.
Some that are branded will not even install on a pc which is
not the same as the branding. Usually a BIOS check ... There
are ways to make a new cd that will not check for branding,
but we can't give details here.
