Windows XP OEM and defective mobo

I installed Windows XP on this rig, a month later my mobo crapped out. So I'm rma'ing that. What do I need to do to keep my Windows legal or whatever.
And do I need to reinstall windows if im using a mobo of the same make and model?

If you get the same mobo, there'll be no problem at all. If you put a different mobo that uses the same chipset, you'll probably have little trouble. If you put in an entirely different mobo (but same CPU, RAM, HDD) then you MIGHT have to reactivate, but you should be successful provided you haven't activated in the last six months.

Well I activated once I got it up and running, so whats that mean for me? Well, i got the message from windows telling me to active so i just clicked active online and let it do its thing.

If that's the only time you've ever activated, then you should be fine. It's a little bit hairier if you did that within the last six months but it should still be fine as long as the mobo is the only changed component. If it asks you to reactivate, just do it (if you're sure you've already set up the hardware correctly). If that fails call and explain and they'll either activate it or give you a new key.

It's usually not bad if you're using a legal key =)
