Windows XP not seeing my second hard drive

I had WinXP Pro running lastnight without any problems regarding my hard drive situation. But I just upgraded from my P3 setup to a P4 system and did a clean format/install of WinXP. After the installation was complete, I can't seem to find my second hard drive anymore. I checked MyComputer, DeviceManager, and Admin Tools->Computer Mgmt->Disk Mgmt and it's not being detected anywhere. It is being detected when I reboot in the bootup post screen and in the setup menu.


Anybody know what's wrong here?

If you messed with the components, I'd unplug your second hard drive, power, ide to the drive and ide to the mobo and then plug everything back in. Might have accidently knocked something loose...

I checked that too but I don't think that's the problem. The boot screen is still able to detect and see the hard drive. Only when I'm in WinXP does it fail to see the hard drive.

I'm getting a message on bootup saying:

No drive attached to FastTrak controller, The BIOS is not installed

Anybody have any idea what that's supposed to mean? I got a BIOS installed and I already know that I don't have a drive connected to the FastTrak controller. Any ideas?

OK, after fiddling with this the entire day...I got something to work. I tried swapping in my Maxtor 60GB drive instead of the Quantum 30GB as the secondary drive. It recognized the Maxtor 60GB immediately. I swapped the Quantum back in and got the same response. I got fed up and decided to just move the Maxtor into my main system and move the Quantum to the other machine. This time the Maxtor 60GB failed to be recognized. I play with it a little and swap the Quantum back in...but this time it WORKS!

Oddly enough, things like this has happened a few times before. Anybody have any clue why this happened?
