Okay so here's my drawn out story. Last week I'm cruising the net and I see Motherboard Monitor. I think "Hey! now there's a heck of an idea I've always wondered how hot my cpu runs." So I download it and install it. Find out my CPU is running at a nice and cool 75 degrees C. So at this point I kinda flip out and take it apart to find that my heatsink and fan were completely clogged with dust. So I clean that off put on some new thermal paste and go on my way!
Check the temp after reboot 40 degrees C. So I think oh it's gonna go up... It never does so I reduce my temp by 35 degrees. Not bad eh?
So I'm computer along happy as a clam a few days later when all of a sudden everything starts taking a really long time to load. Essentially it seemed like i had about 5 fps, meaning it would go along fine for about 5-10 seconds and then stop for 5-10 seconds. Then "I think what the hell is this all about?" So I reboot.
Everything goes fine and normal, but I get a strange grey progress bar that i'm not used to seeing on the bottom of the screen. So that goes along at a slow sort of pace and I get the XP screen w/ my favorite blue progress bar... And it sits there at that screen for a good 45 seconds. So I reboot again... same thing except the grey progress bar goes slower this time.
I figure I'll boot into safe mode and see if that works. NO CHANCE it takes forever for all the files to load... and it gets to the screen where it says safe mode in the all the corners and I get a cursor to play with but that's it.
So coming to the end of my story... I try to reboot AGAIN and now it can't even get through the grey progress bar at any sort of speed... goes vewwwwwy swowly like it's hunting wabbits.
So... I try swapping each stick of ram in and out to no avail... so it's not the ram. I'm thinking either XP install is bad, CPU took a dump on me, the harddrive is dead, or some oddness concerning the MOBO.
Sorry for the drawn out tale but I thought the 75 degree cpu temp might be of some use and I greatly appreciate any help questions or suggestions!
