Windows XP "no internet connection" irritation

I'm using Windows XP Pro and Roadrunner is my ISP. Sometimes XP gives me a dialog box that says there is no internet connection, but as soon as I click on try again everything is fine.

I don't think there ever is a loss of connection, but Windows XP must be running some automatic check every so often, maybe looking for a dial up connection even though I've never used a dial up connection with this computer.

It's a minor irritation, but I thought someone might know if there is a setting somewhere that would correct this ?

Is this a laptop? Maybe it's refferring to the wireless connection? I can be connected all day long w/ a land-line but there'll still be an icon in the tray saying the cable's unplugged.

no its not a laptop, just a regular wired connection. I am uisng a router, and upnp is turned on. I have a copule of computers hooked to the router, both using Windows XP, I think only one of them seems to have this issue of momentarily not knowing that there is an internet connection.

Unless you use UPnP for any particular reason, if you turn it off in the router, it should fix the problem.

I tried turning off Upnp, it didn't solve the issue. I don't understand why one of my computers has this problem and the other doesn't ?

That's what makes me think there is a setting somewhere in Windows XP that is causing this to happen.
