Windows XP Networking Question

My Windows XP machine opens folders on networked computers just fine, but seems to really slow down when opening a network MP3 folder which contains about 3000 files. It takes a good 30 seconds just to open the folder. Can anyone offer a possible explanation? I understand that the number of files is the problem, but neither Win98 nor Windows 2000 have a problem opening the same networked folder.

Someone mentioned a similar problem - by chance is it trying to open "thumbnail views" for the MP3? If so, it's trying to cache all of the files and that may be what's taking so long.
