Windows XP Network Printers and IPP

Penth

OK, I've got a TrendWare print server and I'm setting the printers up to use IPP. The problem is that when I install the printers they are called, "unknown on http://print2" or wherever they are. Is it possible to rename network printers so that they are descriptive?

Well, I searched Google hi and low for the answer to this and didn't come up with anything, but I was able to solve it myself. I guess I'll post the answer here in case anyone else ever has this issue.

Open Regedit

Go to HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows NT>Current Version>Print>Printers

There you will find your printer and a key named Name. Change it to whatever you would like. I had a Konica-Minolta Magicolor 2300W that I had quite a challenge to change the name on. I found it works to keep the name very short and change it as little as possible. it was \\http://192.168.0.21/unknown and I changed it to \\http://192.168.0.21/Magicolor An HP LaserJet 1300 let me put whatever I want though.
