Windows XP Multiprocessor Support???

I am building a dual dual core opteron workstation for a real rocket scientist buddy of mine. I have extensive experience with building systems and installing XP but none with anything beyond 2 processor systems. What version of XP supports a system with 2 dual core opterons? Will XP Pro? I have read that it will as it supports 2 sockets. But if that is so will it actually detect and support all 4 "real" processors or do I need something else like 2003 server? I have looked on MS's website but there is nothing explained exactly straight forward on this subject. A mess of technical things but not an out and out answer it seems.

XP Pro will work fine.

Yes, XP Pro will work. Home will support a single dual core CPU. Pro will support two CPUs with any number of cores, while Home supports a single CPU with any number of cores.
