Windows XP : Mouse Freezes but computer doesn't ?

I've noticed ever since I moved to WinXP that sometimes my computer will be perfectly fine, but yet my mouse freezes ... Cuz music is still going .. advertisements on webpages still move....

Anyone know what fixes this?

What kind of mouse is it? Is it USB or PS/2? If it's USB, what other USB devices do you have plugged in? It sounds like a resource conflict on the mouse/USB IRQ possibly. You should also try a different mouse.

Did you try a different mouse? What IRQ is your USB on? Do you have a USB to PS/2 adapter to try it on the Ps/2 port?

That used to happen to me too. I'm using Win2k though. My problem was the USB port. Try using the other USB port, or just unplug and plug the mouse back in when it stops responding.

I'm using a usb intellimouse and Win XP, the mouse freezing or locking up is getting worse daily, I've changed usb ports and the mouse still freezes. Has any one found a workaround?

Some revisions of this mouse (IMHO) are just buggy. In every case using the included PS2 adapater and running the mouse that way has resolved the problem. Newer ones seem to have fixed whatever the problem was, but from our first batch at work I think everyone eventually showed this problem.
