Screen shot here

Shows this one process (mixer.exe) hogging memory by the second. Mixer.exe is the prog that controls the sound..well, Windows XP's built in sound but I have a Turtle Beach santa cruz with it software running. So Mixer.exe shouldn't even be running. But it startes itself up and just starts grabbing memory (about 12k every second) and won't quit until the process is ended.

Anyone had this happen to them? What's the deal (and no its not a virus I don't think, have the latest virus definitions with Norton Systemworks 2k2.

Looks like it's Startup Control Panel to the rescue again, it adds an item called "startup" into the control panel, from there you can disable even more hidden startup items include the mixer.

mixer.exe is part of the onboard CMI sound cards yeah, I have it running on my work PC right now...it's using 3.3mb of memory so something is going very wrong with yours! The software must have been installed at somepoint, maybe by Windows XP automatically, have you tried looking for it in add/remove programs?
