Windows XP Media player 9 Woes

Since I don't like media player 9 because it forces me to agree with it's shift license agreement and Media player 8 has better visuals, I was wondering how I could install over media player 9 in windows xp. I don't have has many problems with service pack 1 as I did before but I still have gripes with media player 9. There is nothing in media player 9 that I like and is not an improvement, I can't do a restore because agian it came with my laptop. Please help me/guide me to install media player 8 over it. Also is there a way to make it so media player 8 (or 9 if I can't remove it) doesn't keep reminding me to upgrade?

There's a Media Player 8? 😕

You can go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Features and sort of "de-publish" WMP if you like...

the easiest answer would be to find another video player that you like. I'm afraid as time goes on we won't have choice in not using WMP with horrible license agreements and DRM... 🙁 I doubt you will be able to get 8 on there.

I heard this one guy kinda installed Windows Media 8 on like Windows me.. It didn't work though but it seems like you should be able to reinstall it.

I have a hacked Media Player 8 installed on Win2000 and it works great.

I too dislike Media Player 9, and wasn't pleased its bundled with XP SP2.

Unfortunately I haven't yet found a way of getting WMP8 back onto XP either, other than leaving it at SP1 level with patches.

Funny, my XP seems to have Media Player 8 on it by default, XP SP1. Can you even download a WMP8 installer from MS at all?
