What are the advantages of Microsoft Windows XP Media Center vs XP Pro? I know that Media Center is touted as having some advantages, but what are the disadvantages of using media Center over XP Pro? I'd really appreciate it if someone would take a few minutes to enlighten me...and thanks!

There are no real disadvantages. There may be some networking stuff, but if you are using it for a HTPC, that wouldn't most likely concern you. MCE is XP Pro with an additional front-end for easy navigation for media files.

XP MCE cannot be added to a domain, unless it's done during the install itself. I've heard of workarounds to this aspect though.

MCE is better suited for multimedia tasks, thanks to the programs MS installed for browsing TV, DVDs, etc. Its a more software-bundled version of XP-Pro, and it requires a better computer, too.

For a home user, all you need is XP Home, not Pro. If you want the software bundle that comes with MCE, then get it, otherwise it's no different.

I have used it for a bit and I really am not impressed with it. I really is just a front end GUI and thats about it. Its slow to navigate around. I am going to be removing it and replacing it with 64bit XP see if thats any more fun.
