windows xp media center hibernate questions

Hey, I just set up XP Media Center Edition 2005 on an old laptop and am thinking about using it as a car PC (for music only really, not video, etc). Power management will be critical if I am to do it though, and I'm having a few problems...

1. I have an admin account and a "car" account on it now, and hibernation and standby just don't work for the "car" account while they do work on the other. I have tried with the car account set as both an administrator and a limited account, and it doesn't work for either. It does work while logged in under the other account. Any ideas or fixes?

2. Is there a way to make it wake from standby and hibernation with input devices. Currently only the power button on the machine will bring it out, but it won't be in a convenient place if I put this in my car. Particularly I would want it to wake by hitting buttons on an IR Media Center remote. I couldn't find anything about doing this, so any help would be much appreciated.

The laptop is an old HP ze1115 for reference.

I'm guessing the "car" account just doesnt have privilages to change power settings (which users dont have by default). Give that user full control over the following registry key and than give it a shot:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls Folder\PowerCfg
