I recently installed one of my old hard drives into my friends PC to upgrade his 6gb and installed a fresh copy after repartitioning the drive I gave him. After Windows XP installed I immediately ran Windows Update and I found it odd after 2 hours it still wasn't more then 30% done with the installation of the patches. I tried to install other things such as his Norton Anti Virus and it would hang at like 75% so I stopped that, I tried to install Direct X 9.0b and it would just sit at the initializing point and do nothing else. His system specs are P3-700 MHz, and 512mb of PC133 on a Tyan Trinity motherboard. At first I thought it may have been because I didn't install the VIA 4in1 drivers but after installing them nothing changed. Just to be curious I installed Windows 2000 into his machine and it worked flawlessly.
Anyone have any ideas as to why his machine was lagging and responding very slow in Windows XP?
also a shameless plug for a problem of mine, 2 of my machines for some reason keep having Audio ads start playing randomly from careerbuilder.com. I ran Spybot and Ad-Ware and it found nothing in my related to that, I still did a cleaning of spyware but it did not remedy the problem. Anyone have any insight as to what may be doing this?
Thanks in advance.
