Windows XP Keyboard + Mouse weirdness

Chaotic42

Every minute or so, my keyboard and mouse freeze up for about a half of a second. That's about all there is to it, no errors or anything.

Anyone had anything like this happen?

When this happens, my CPU usage jumps up to about 30%.

Edit:

No unusual services or processes, no defragging, no indexing, no media players or CDR scoftware, no network shares.

I'd try reboting first. Then your standard virus/spyware scan.

Check Services to see if anything unusual is running. Check the task manager for any unfamiliar processes... especially those that take a lot of memory or CPU.

Do you have background defrag enabled? Indexing service turned on? Do you have a media player or CD authoring program that periodically checks the CD drives?

Do you have any network shares?

I get that same thing with my notebook whenever I don't have the battery in, but its powered by the AC adapter. As soon as I put the battery back in that problem goes away. I also saw this same thing on another comptuer that has a wireless usb adapter that wasn't installed. The service kept looking for it and it would cause a brief freeze, I killed the service and it went away. Basically, your computer is "looking" for something is what I would gather from my two experiences.
