Windows XP Kernel32.dll error

Every time I log on I get an error saying "The procedure entry point Ptr could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernel32.dll." I have no idea what this means, or any way to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If this isn't the right category to post this in then i'm sorry, i'm new here. Thank you

Did you upgrade XP from 98? Sounds like you have some software which is failing at startup (probably from the Run key or from the Startup group). You should be able to see whats there and run each to determine which fails with the message you mentioned.

No its a full install (3rd time i've reinstalled it actually). Someone mentioned corrupting the Kernel32.dll file by putting their sub too close in another thread. Something like this may have happened. It can't be software because I tried the roll back or system restore or whatever its called and it didn't fix it. It doesn't affect anything as far as I can tell, but getting the message every time I log on is annoying. I tried using the Automated System Recovery, but was unsure how it works.

You've installed no third party software since installing? This is happening because some application is trying to call a function that is not supported by our version of Kernel32.dll. This isn't a kernel32.dll corruption issue, if it was no applications (at all) would run.

I uninstalled everything except what I know works fine with it and it hasn't changed anything. Should I reinstall windows? I want to avoid that if possible, but if there's no other choice....

What programs (exactly) are starting at windows startup from the Startup group and from the Run keys in the registry?

This is a problem that's happened to me in the past as well. The only solution I could come up with was reinstalling Windows, becuase the damned thing would keep coming up again and again. Once I reinstalled Windows it was OK though. It seemed to me like it was some kind of software thing, but I didn't have the time or energy to get to the bottom of it when it happened.

Good luck.

The only things that open are Rundll32, windows messenger, point32 (intellipoint software), and aol instant messenger. I checked all this in msconfig.

What is rundll loading (what are the parameters). Try doing a start/run for each of the command lines and see if one of them causes the error when you do it manually.
