Windows XP keeps rebooting with weird message

For about the past week, my Windows XP machine will stay up for maybe less than a day. At some point in the day, a message pops up saying something like this:

"The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly."

I checked my event log and the full message logged is this:

"The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Reboot the machine."

Anyone know how to fix this or what is actually causing it? Thanks!

It may seem odd but I had a problem with my XP1700 and XP1800 that the computer would just randomly reboot and the only error in the event log was the same as yours. On the XP1700 it was the CPU (put the 1800 in to verify) and I had to do an rma. With the 1800 (different machine) it was temperature related and only happened in the summertime. I have not had this problem since switching to the P4's.

Simply disable RPC service through Serives applet and Admin Tools or MMC
Do NOT do that. RPC is a critical service and Windows will not work properly without it. I know this because I disabled it and all hell broke loose. I could not get into the Services console to re-enable it. Not even safe mode would start. Fortunately I was able to start it up again with a registry patch.
