All the folders in my documents are my full name rather than My Pictures, My Documents, etc. For example its John Doe's Pictures, John Doe's Documents. Does anyone know how I can change it back?

I have tried editing the ini file that holds folder settings in notepad but still no luck. Not sure what is going on with it. Please help!

Have you tried simply renaming those folders? I can rename mine (in XP home), and all the associated shortcuts and menu choices change along with it.

Not sure how they got like that in the first place, though. Maybe some program or theme ran a "helpful" script to personalize your desktop?

When I rename them, after some time they change back to the full name. I am very picky about what is installed on my computers so I don't believe any other app modified it.

The only other thing I can think of is that I am using a different My Documents location. Well, at least it is not too much of a problem, just aesthetics.

Perhaps if you move the MyDocs folders out of your personal folder in Documents & Settings, they will be automatically renamed to avoid confusion among other users?

Are you logged on as another user when this is happening? If so, it is normal. XP adds the names before the folders of other users to avoid confusion.

If this isn't the case you could try editing the path in a program like Tweak XP and then renaming the folders.

i had the same issue after moving the my documents folder from its default location.

dinking around w/ the location fixed it...i can't rmemeber exactly what i did but try this:

1) click the properties of the my documents folder and move the location to somewhere else.
2) make a folder called "My Documents" where u initially wanted the my documents folder to go.
3) right click on the my documents folder again, and move it to the desired my documents folder u just made in the target location
4) it'll pop up some warning or other - click 'yes' i think (read it anyway) and all should be fine.

if that doesn't work, dink around w/ the properties...my memory fails me...but i DID fix it by fooling aorund w/ the properties, and the only thing really available in the properties is moving the target location of the folder, so....

EDIT:

remember to REFRESH explorer or your desktop after!
