Windows XP internet connection issue

Ok here it goes

I am having a huge issue with my home machine . Basically it all started with my boot drive going down so I had to get a new HD. I use an imaging software (Acronis) and restored the old image I had saved to the new drive. My restoration worked flawlessly but I had made amistake by delting something I shouldn't have so I decided to re-image it. I had done this many, many times before but for some reason this time, It would not connect to my router and the internet.

I have the internet to modem, to my wireless router. 3 Other computers connected the same way works fine.

But for my computer, the Local area connect either says not connected or ?limited connectivity?. I have tried reinstalling the network card, (It's an nforce2 board )repair the connection( It comes back saying it can?t renew IP)

The router is on DHCP and it gives IPs for the other computers perfectly. I have tried swapping out the Cat 5 cable as well. I have even tried assigning a static IP as well as letting it dynamically assign. NOthing is working!

I am about to reinstall windows, is there anything I should try before that? Will reinstalling TCP/IP work?

My system details

AMD XP 2800+
Dual Channel 1G DDR 400
ECS Nforce 2 board (I know don't laugh but this thing is 10 times more solid then my many ABIT boards in the past!)

Windows XP

Please help, I am really at my wits end here.

Yes different ports tried but no difference. Seems like for some reason DHCP is not giving my computer the right address. That is why I am asking maybe reinstalling TCP/IP will help? Am I completely wrong? Basically, its the only thing I haven't tried as well.

Do a google search for WinSockFix and run it. May be that will help you to restore the tcp/ip issues.

let us now.

Ok I just reinstalled windows and it's still not working. Does this mean my onboard lan is toast? But I get no errors at all from as the lan is recognized and installs fine.

just updating,

I went ahead and did a fresh install of Win XP pro , as well did a new Bios flash.

Still same problem.

Are we looking at possible hardware failure at this point? Is there a way I can test for that?

Because like I said before, the onboard lan gets detected and reports to windows as fully functional!

Thanks Chad, I actually did try that patch but I already reinstalled the whole system to SP1 and its giving me same trouble. I am just leaning towards a hardware issue now. What can I do to verify if it's a hardware issue?
