Windows XP - "insufficient system resources"?

I have a few year Pentium 4 dell that I use at work. After a fulls day's work using the computer - mostly Microsoft Office word and excel 2007 - the computer bogs down and I get a message of "insufficient system resources" Following this message the computer runs very slowly and the screen image becomes pixelized.

What could be causing this error message? How can I fix it.

how much ram does the computer have? Sounds like after that message you are getting, the computer is using the virtual memory on the hdd

How do you set the page file size?

1) From the desktop focus, press the F1 key
2) Using the search field enter set page file size
2a) Press the Green Arrow button
3) You should get a list of recommendations, one which will state "Change the size of the virtual memory paging file".
4) Click on that link

I will try increasing the page and see how it works

Unless you're getting a "Low on Virtual Memory" dialog then your pagefile size isn't the problem.

what else do you think the problem might be?

try doing virus scan and malware scan. also go into msconfig and to the startup tab and see what programs and services are starting up when you turn on the computr. go through the list, and uncheck the ones you dont want starting up when the computer boots.
