Hey everyone. I am going insane trying to figure out what is going on. I built a new computer so first let me get the Specs out of the way.

Specs:

Antec Solution SLK2650-BQE Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply
BIOSTAR M7NCG 400 Socket A (Socket 462) NVIDIA nForce2 IGP Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Mobile Athlon XP-M 2200+ (35W) Barton 266MHz FSB Socket A Processor Model AXMD2200FJQ4C
2 sticks of mushkin SP3200 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory Model 991093
Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JB 80GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive

I am having trouble during the installation of XP Pro. It goes through the first part fine, but after Setup has the computer restart, it locks up on either the Windows XP logo w/ black background, or just on a blue background (not BSOD blue, but the setup colored blue).

Things McFly has tried:
Removed Dial-up Modem
Removed one of the sticks of memory
Took the jumper off the Hard Drive
Reset the BIOS to original settings
Gone to the future to see if that would fix the problem, and because XP can't install, Earth is going to suffer a nuclear meltdown.

So I leave it to you, the good people of AT, to help me MartyMcfly3 save Earth from a nuclear meltdown and fix this thing.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Bah, nuclear schmooclear. I heard it's going to be all the tectonic plates flip over :p Darn those Biostar boards anyway.

Have you forced your PC3200 down to PC2100 speeds so it's sync'ed to the CPU's bus speed? That's generally The Right Thing To Do with nForce2 boards, although it may not sound like it. Sync = good. In the BIOS, go to Advanced Chipset Features and set Memory Frequency to 100%, then save & exit.

If the issue persists, try some true-blue PC2100 memory in place of the PC3200. That stuff all runs on electricity, and some PC3200 is looking for more like 2.6-2.7 volts, although I see yours is not the fancy-pants stuff that's most known for that. This board probably gives the RAM 2.5 volts.

im done messing around with it for now but ill try it later. BTW, I love you (not in a homosexual way mind you) for that guide. It's a work of art. This is the 2nd computer I've built (building kind of run-of-the-mill ones for family members) and that guide has helped out tremendously.

Ill let you know what happens tomorrow.
