Windows XP install Problems: Blue Screen

Ok, before I get flamed, let me say I have searched this forum, and others, as well as Microsoft's help site regarding my issue and I can not find a satisfactory answer.

Now, I have a machine running Win98SE with the following specs:
1.2 Athlon, ABIT KT133A Mobo, IBM Destar 40 gig HD; WD 60 gig HD; 512 mg RAM (one stick is crucial, the other Value RAM); Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound; MSI Starforce 64 mb DDR GeForce GTS and Lite-on 16x CDR Drive.

I've tried upgrading to Windows XP (using the copy I purchased from one of the hot deals) and I get through the entire setup, until the system re-boot, at which time, I get a blue screen telling me the following:

STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF9E8563C 0xC0000034....)

The screen suggests that I remove any new hardware, scan for viruses and run chkdsk for errors. I have done all that and still can't install.

On Microsoft's website, they suggest updating the bios and updating the Hard Drive Controllers. I have done that and still can't install.

I've also read that it may be the RAM (perhaps the Value Ram) or the driver for the Santa Cruz card (although I don't see how). I will try resolving the issue along these suggestions tonight.

Fellow Anandtech'ers; please help. I've had very good experience on this forum benefiting from the expertise of the members. Thanks.

The standard tactic for troubleshooting installs is to pull all of the PCI cards out and detach any devices not necessary to the install process. If you are running more than one stick of ram I would pull all but one out and try it then.

I would stick with the Crucial RAM first.

Thanks I give up. I'll try that tonight. I'm hoping its the RAM, but we'll see. I have read the article completely and I've tried everything it says. Its been very frustrating.
