Windows XP install problem w/ file copy

Ok, here's the deal. I'm trying to do a clean install of Windows on a computer I just built for my friend. Specs:

Asus K8V
512MB Kingston valueram PC3200
Athlon 64 3000+
Radeon 9800 Pro
WD 160 GB
NEC 8xDVD+rw (don't remember model name, was in the $80 range, I can get it if required)
Samsung 52X CD-rom
420W Thermaltake power supply (came with case).

Whenever I go to install windows, everything goes fine until file copy (full format, etc.). Random files have problems being copied (often the same one from attempt to attempt). I've tried using the CD in both drives. Power is not the problem. What I'm thinking is that it could be the cable, one (or both but I doubt it) of the CD drives, or possibly something wrong with the motherboard (I will be flashing the BIOS, as well as bringing a CD Rom drive and cable from home that I know work, and another cable for the HD just in case). Are any of these likely the problem?

Any suggestions (maybe BIOS settings, other known problems)?

Note-I also tried my own CD, to no avail.
