windows xp in Japanese

My Son bought a Toshiba Dynabook T5/x16pme when he was in Japan, and of course the xp software is in Japanese. I have a windows xp in english but have tried everything I know of to format and load the english version, but so many things have happened I am to the point where I believe it would be far simpler to just erase the hard drive clean as he has no personal information on it that he wants to save and then reinstall the English version.
We have no CD or anything that came with the laptop. We can not use fdisk or any feature as its in Japanese and we cant read it. any suggestions.???

Yes, just do the erase and reformat and install the English version especially since your son has no personal info on it, makes it so easy.

Yep, the XP installation CD is bootable. When you insert the CD and run the computer, the dialog screen will appear and only you need will be to follow the instructions. In order to be able to boot from the CD you might be needed to set the proper BIOS option.

You're going to need an OEM XP CD that is the English version, The one that came with the notebook is going to be no good. I recommend imaging the system before you start erasing just in case. I'm not sure if the CD key for the Japanese version is compatible with a US OEM XP CD. You might want to look into that.

I just want a program that will wipe my drive clean, I can not use the bootable xp disc as it keeps saying I am missing a file please replace <windows root>Japanese character system32 (japanese character)hal.dll I have no idea what that means but I think if I can erase the whole disc. with software I can then load the new XP in english?? Is this do able.?
