I'm setting up a dual boot, and in order to get Linux to run on my Intel DP965LT motherboard, the SATA controller must be in AHCI mode. Since Intel doesn't supply a driver floppy, (or just the SATA driver in any format), I had to set the controller to IDE mode to install XP. So I need to configure XP so that it will boot in AHCI mode. Disk is a Seagate Caviar 7200.10

You can't change it after you install. Are you sure Intel doesn't have a driver?

It seems that the Repair Installation will allow me to do that. Intel has a driver, but it's buried into their chipset install wizard.

I think I found the driver you need:

You can use this driver to make a floppy for the install. Make sure to look at the read me.

Linux works on my 965P Express/ICH8 just fine in both parallel mode and serial mode. Using 2.6.19.1 kernel with ata_piix (IDE) libata (SATA).

You can probably install the AHCI driver after you install XP. Boot XP in IDE mode, install AHCI driver, reboot, change to AHCI mode, boot XP. Here is the AHCI driver for ICHx chipsets.

The floppy provided does not work without hacks. I tried it and investigated the odd error I was getting, and you need to use unattended installation to get it to work at all. I have no idea what Intel was thinking, but that's the deal.
