Hey all,

Just wondering about something. I own/run a 2000 Server and it is a domain controller. I also own Xp Pro and XP Home. I know Pro does domains and Home does not. But here is the question... is there any way to put XP Home under a Domain Controller? I have seen references to doing that with a regedit, but I have never seen the edit.

I just don't want to buy another XP Pro if I can help it, other then the "joining a domain restriction," XP Home will work just great for what she needs it to do.

Let me know your thoughts on this "rumor" of being able to have Xp Home join a domain.

Thanks in advance,
Bob

This thread from last month discussed the same question. Doesn't look promising, but at least one person thought there was a workaround.

I have a utility called Tweaki, and I just noticed this in the help file:

"Allow XP Home Edition to join this domain
By default, Windows XP Home Edition does not provide a means for joining a domain. Using this feature of Tweaki you can circumvent this restriction. Just enter the name of the domain you wish to join, apply the change and then reboot the computer. Upon reboot and login with the proper credentials the XP Home Edition machine can now join the domain.

Supported on Windows XP Home Edition only.

A full reboot is necessary to enable/disable this feature.

This option is blank by default."

You can find out more about tweaki at http://www.3bsoftware.com/

Thanks for the info and the link. I will have to wait a day or so to try, but I will post here if it works out.
