windows xp home edition 32 bit

pontifex

Is there anywhere I can SAFELY and LEGALLY download an ISO of windows xp home 32 bit?
I have a license key, I just need the software.

Need to restore one of those old netbooks and there's no restore media/partition.

Other option is to buy a copy off ebay, but most are "repair" discs that other people made themselves. They're cheap, but who knows what they might have added to it, so not sure how safe it is to use one.

Know any Windows developers living near you? I think MSDN / Visual Studio subscribers can still get the ISOs, but I haven't needed to look since I have a few XP DVDs tucked away.

If you have a valid license I don't see any legal issues with getting an ISO or DVD copy from someone you trust. There's certainly no ethical issues.

Problem is I don't know anyone that has one. I checked with all the people I know that might, but they all had xp pro.

XP? You could proably torrent the thing and no one would care.

But I certainly hope this person doesn't plan on doing much online with a mechine running XP.

Unfortunately no, the only valid way to get xp was from the msdn/technet or volume licensing programs and those where all Pro versions and they required different keys

About the only way is from someone you trust or probably can get a copy from a local repair shop.

A torrent from a private tracker will most likely be fine, people vet stuff more on those sites.

Though if you can borrow a legal copy from someone you can probably just use an iso rip program to "rip" it as an iso.

I wouldn't trust a download at this point; but lots of people still have original xp disks. I would go that route if possible.

I think you might be over estimating the number of people hanging on to XP Home disks. I personally don't know anybody who has one. I threw mine away years ago.

I have a couple somewhere; but a recent move leaves the location in limbo. Having said that you are right i don't know how many people have them.

I have both XP Home and XP Pro discs .. but they are Dell versions since most of my computers are Dell. I also have a copy of XP Pro that is not vendor specific .. A couple of them have the SP3 already in them

I did manage to find a Dell XP home restore CD, made an isolated and made a bootable USB stick, but it kept saying the Eula was missing and wouldn't let me continue. There was an eula.txt file on the disk and I copied that to different locations, but nothing worked, kept getting the same message.

XP was a real pita as far as version and oem goes. Post exactly what you need, and someone may have something. Not sure what I've got, but I can dig around in my box of obsolete software if you can tell me what you have.

Alternatively, gnu/linux should work, and won't make you perform stupid tricks getting it installed ;^)

I need XP Home Edition 32 bit installation CD. Has to be 32 bit as we had some XP pro CDs and tried them out and it gave an error saying that it wasn't 64 bit hardware.

What brand is the netbook? If you get find an installation disk for that brand, you might not even need to enter a key. As you have found, install discs that are brand-specific will only work for that brand.

If previous YGPM doesn't work I can fix you up. Got a couple System Builder versions of XP Home w/SP3 here can even include in the necessary OEM SLP files.

Microsoft doesn't even support that version now. In fact, it's a forgotten thing for MS since at least 2009. If you were to torrent it or get it from some similar source, they wouldn't even care. you can also look up for other editions users tinkered with if you can't find xp pro anywhere, some might not even require a key for all i know.

I ended up buying a copy on ebay (the person who owns the netbook agreed to pay for it), and it turned out it was for a dell restore, but it worked. not sure why the other copy I tried from a dell restore didn't work.
